A two-day course for Key Stage 1
teachers and mathematics subject leaders
Children need to engage in a wide range of problem-solving
tasks if they
are to appreciate how mathematics can help them solve
real everyday
problems and provide an outlet for their creative abilities.
We must
provide suitable learning opportunities to help them
develop and refine
their reasoning and problem-solving skills.
On this course you will:
- consider how to develop children’s ability
to reason and justify their ideas
- review the teacher’s
role within a problem-solving context
- find out how
to identify appropriate activities
and investigations
- consider how questioning can support
and
extend children’s learning
