Challenging more able children in mathematics at Key Stage 1

A course for Key Stage 1 teachers and mathematics subject leaders

The daily mathematics lesson often involves the whole class working together. However, many teachers are concerned about meeting the needs of more able children. Specific strategies and activities are needed to broaden and deepen children’s mathematical understanding.

On this course you will:

  • explore the breadth of the mathematics curriculum at Key Stage 1
  • identify strategies for challenging more able children in a mixed ability class
  • consider the role of the teacher in developing children’s mathematical thinking skills
  • explore games and activities that will stimulate more able children’s mathematical development

London: Mon 10 Mar 2008 (LON34)
