A course for Year 1 teachers, mathematics
subject leaders and Key Stage leaders
The transition from Reception to Year 1 is a significant
one for both
children and teachers. It is important to provide a gradual
transition in
both curriculum content and learning provision that helps
children to be
confident in, and enjoy, mathematics.
On this course you will:

look at how to use the information from the Foundation
Stage Profile
- consider how to balance the Early Years Foundation
Stage curriculum and the Renewed Framework for Teaching
Mathematics
for Year 1
- look at the appropriate classroom environment
for Year 1 and
how it should interface with, and develop, what was
experienced in Reception
- discuss the importance of using practical apparatus
- address the developing need for differentiation
