A course for Reception teachers
Mathematical activity needs to take account of the interests
and
enthusiasms of young children. Children have a natural
curiosity about
the world around them. We should provide a variety of
contexts that
can be experienced and visualised in order to develop
children’s mental strategies.
On this course you will:
- explore activities, contexts and resources which
help to create
a mathematically-rich environment
- discover ways
of establishing breadth in children’s
counting skills
- consider ways of moving children
on from counting to
early calculating
- look at story sacks as one way
of making mathematics
more meaningful
- create opportunities that develop
children’s
problem-solving skills
