A course for Foundation Stage practitioners,
Key Stage 1 and Year 3 teachers
and mathematics subject leaders
There has been much reference to children’s own
ways of recording
in the EYFS curriculum and the Renewed Framework for
Teaching
Mathematics. It is important to translate this into effective
practice
in the classroom or Early Years setting so we can nurture
and develop
children’s intuitive methods on paper.
On this course you will:
- examine the latest research
into children’s mathematical symbols
- look
at case studies of children’s mathematical
graphics
- discuss the relevance of the EYFS curriculum
to maths teaching
- explore play environments that
support children’s
mathematical thinking
- analyse children’s mathematical
representations
- review your written methods policy
- consider the
implications for teaching
