BEAM Advisory Support Programmes 2011 - 2012
Utilise BEAM’s expertise in supporting schools throughout the UK and the world to raise standards, enjoyment and motivation in mathematics teaching and learning. BEAM can work with you to offer a advisory support programme from one of our expert mathematics advisors throughout 2011-2012. Book one of the following advisory support programmes and receive over 30% discount on our normal day rates!
You will be supported by a dedicated BEAM mathematics advisor throughout the year who will offer a combination of staff training, consultancy support and coaching.
This package includes:
- 2 InSET days led by a lead BEAM specialist mathematics advisor (max 35 staff per session)
- 4 days of visits spread through the year from the BEAM Advisor (for example you could include - collaborative work in the classroom, supporting the Maths Subject Leader and SLT or working with TA’s – programme to be adapted to the needs of your setting)
- Up to 6 hours of advisory support via telephone/email throughout the academic year

Every Lesson a Problem Solving Lesson; Embedding Using and Applying in Mathematics Teaching and Learning
Aims
- To understand how to use a problem-solving approach in every lesson, including those focusing on number and calculation
- To understand how to 'build in' rather than 'bolt on' problem solving in short term maths planning
Outcomes
- Problem-solving opportunities built in to the daily maths lessons
- Effective questioning techniques utilised consistently
- Strategies implemented that develop children’s mathematical talk, reasoning and explanation
- Increased enjoyment in the teaching and learning of mathematics by both staff and pupils

Consistency and Progression in Calculation
Aims
- To produce a clear calculation policy
- To ensure continuity and progression in calculation throughout your setting

- Consistent approach to calculation throughout your setting
- Clear progression in pupil learning

- Common pupil misconceptions are understood and addressed
