Objectives:
- To explore outdoor play as a powerful learning medium for children to develop mathematics
- To consider effective observation, assessment and planning
By the end of the course, delegates will be familiar with:
- Creating the best opportunities to develop all aspects of maths outdoors, including problem solving, reasoning, calculation and space, shape and measure.
- Participant self audit of current outdoor mathematical opportunities
- Finding ways to really extend current practice and maximise on outdoor learning potential for mathematics through fun relevant child-initiated opportunities and adult shared meaningful activities
- Designing and developing trails and zones and the outside area whether it’s a small tarmac space, a large field or a shared playground along with finding out how to maximise on routines to develop
problem solving, reasoning and calculation and to make the most of the weather!
- How to develop a mathematically rich outdoor area using a wide range of inexpensive yet effective and fun resources
- Planning for maths outdoors and making observations and assessments within the EYFS framework
