By the end of the course, delegates will be familiar with:
- Explore how to effectively support and extend children’s mathematical problem solving opportunities and skills during everyday play, routines and adult-shared activities
- Encourage children to develop thinking skills through sustained shared talk and effective adult interaction
- Explore how resources and the enabling environment can be used to the greatest advantage to really extend and develop mathematical learning
- Identify the potential for developing all aspects of mathematics including problem solving, reasoning, calculation and shape, space and measure through active interesting play
- Use stories, songs, games and outdoor activities to make mathematics memorable and meaningful for young children
- Explore number opportunities through creativity, role play and inexpensive fun and natural resources
- Planning for maths, auditing current maths provision and finding ways to extend opportunities, observing and assessing within EYFS framework
