Objectives:

• To consider the skills children need to make a good start in Year 1
• How to introduce numeracy activities in ways suitable for young children
• To look at how to provide a gradual transition from Reception to Year 1 in both content and learning provision that helps children be confident in and enjoy mathematics

By the end of the course, delegates will be familiar with:

• How to balance the EYFS curriculum and the Renewed Framework for teaching mathematics for Year 1
• Providing an appropriate classroom environment for Year1 and how routines and activities can be adopted from Reception
• The importance of using practical resources
• The developing need for differentiation
• Guidance for parents on how to support their children in Year 1
