A two-day course for Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistants

Your own experience of learning mathematics at school may well be different from children today. This course will enable you to approach your support work in a more confident way by exploring the learning and teaching of mathematics.

On this course you will:

• reflect on your role as a teaching assistant in the daily mathematics lesson
• examine the teaching of mental and written methods of calculation
• consider the use of resources for teaching numeracy
• try some activities which promote children’s mathematical problem-solving skills
