A course for Key Stage 1 teachers
and mathematics subject leaders
Children learn in a variety of ways and they need a range
of activities to help them understand mathematics. Worksheets
can stifle creativity and limit discussion and understanding.
It is important to focus on the development
of skills and knowledge in mathematics lessons and support
pupils in the transition from practical work to recording.
On this course you will:
- use ideas that encourage
children to think mathematically
and creatively
- experience practical starting points
that can be adapted for
varying levels of ability
- develop activities from
everyday materials, classroom equipment,
stories and rhymes
- discuss the purpose of recording
and when it is appropriate to record
- consider different
types of recording
