Supporting mathematical learning in Key Stage 2 for teaching assistants

A two-day course for Teaching Assistants working at Key Stage 2

Your own experience of learning mathematics at school may be different from children today. This course will enable you to approach your support work in a more confident way by exploring the best practice for the learning and teaching of mathematics.

On this course you will:

  • reflect on your role as a teaching assistant in the daily mathematics lesson
  • examine the teaching of mental and written methods of calculation
  • consider the use of some resources for teaching mathematics
  • try different types of activities which promote children’s mathematical understanding
