A course for class teachers, SENCOs,
mathematics subject leaders and Teaching Assistants
Strategies for supporting dyslexic and dyscalculic children
need to be grounded in both research and experience.
A challenging part of the
process is identifying accurately the specific problem.
Only then can
you plan appropriate practical strategies to help children
develop
their mathematical understanding. Recognising any emotional
issues,
in particular anxiety around mathematics, is also important.
On this course you will:
- consider relevant research
into dyslexia and dyscalculia
- look at identifying
problems and learning styles
- explore difficulties
that arise with mathematical language
- look at short-term
memory, sequencing, organisation and
direction problems
- look at effective multi-sensory
techniques
