A course for Early Years practitioners
and mathematics subject leaders
Stories, both familiar and less well known, are an excellent
starting point for problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
and link with the other areas of learning and development.
There are lots of wonderful counting books around and
many other books where the maths is easily identifiable.
On this course you will:
- look more closely at familiar,
high-quality fiction and find the
maths in unexpected places
- consider maths from traditional
tales
- evaluate some number books
- explore the possibilities
for developing maths experiences
from stories
- plan some role play experiences using
books as starting points
